On Monday, January 21, 2019, the City of Bryan Municipal Office building and all other City administrative offices will be closed in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Please note bin trash and brush/bulky pick-up will remain on schedule!
The self-driving trolleys are set to be unveiled in historic Downtown Bryan on Wednesday, October 31st, at 9 AM. To celebrate this partnership announced in September, you are invited to join us in front of the Carnegie History Center at 111 South Main Street from 9 AM to 10 AM.
There will be a celebratory “first ride” with Bryan Mayor Andrew Nelson, Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp, Texas A&M University College of Engineering Dean Dr. M. Katherine Banks, Texas A&M University Department of Mechanical Engineering and Lead Researcher Dr. Srikanth Saripalli, Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) Agency Director Greg Winfree, and TTI Executive Associate Director Dr. Katherine Turnbull.
Citizens, visitors, and our local media partners are welcome and encouraged to view the self-driving trolleys and listen to words of celebration from each entity that has partnered to bring autonomous driving technology research to public rights of way. Surface parking is available along South Main Street and covered parking is available at the Roy Kelly Parking Garage located at 301 East 26th Street.
Schedule of Events
At 9 AM, officials will make their way from the Roy Kelly Parking Garage to the depot in front of the Carnegie History Center. An area around the parked self-driving trolley will be reserved for local media and a separate area will be marked for visitors to watch as officials complete the first portion of the trolley route. Once media interviews are complete, officials and our media partners will ride the trolleys back to the Roy Kelly Parking Garage.
This will mark the official “opening” of the self-driving trolley service to the public. Please note the trolleys will operate two hours per day between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM, Monday through Friday. Citizens will know the trolleys are available for service when the a-frame signs are posted at each trolley stop.
We will have a sound board available for you to tie into for an uninterrupted voice feed. We ask that you please bring your own XLR cable.
