Make plans to load up the whole family and enjoy a drive-in double feature of “Lilo & Stitch” and “Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch” on Friday, May 16, at Bryan Regional Athletic Complex.
Update Sept. 26, 2024: Construction is complete, and both parks are open for play.
Update Aug. 2, 2024: Construction on new play equipment at Bonham and Tanglewood Parks starts Monday, Aug. 5. During construction, the playground and swing set at Bonham Park and the playground near the sand volleyball court at Tanglewood Park will be closed. Other park amenities will remain open.
Bonham and Tanglewood Parks are set to receive new play equipment following the unanimous approval by Bryan City Council on April 9.
Here’s an overview of the new equipment:
The current playground and adjacent swing set were built in 2002. The structures have exceeded their life expectancy and replacement parts are no longer available by the manufacturer.
The new structures will boast three slides, interactive play panels, an athletic arch, ladders, climbers, swings, and a fall zone covered in bonded shredded rubber mulch. The play unit will be designed for ages 5 – 12 and the swings will be suitable for ages 2 – 12.
The current structure on the east side of the park was built in 2006. Replacement was deemed necessary due to deterioration from excessive use, replacement parts are no longer available, and the unit’s fall surfacing has exceeded its life expectancy.
The new playground, designed for ages 5 – 12, will feature multiple levels, four slides, a rope tunnel, StemPlay gears, ladders, climbers, and a fall zone covered in bonded shredded rubber mulch.
Over the next several months, work will begin on the $465,638 worth of upgrades, aiming to wrap up by Sept. 30, weather permitting.
Funding is through the Fiscal Year 2024 Parks Improvement Plan funds and Parkland Dedication funds.
