Parks, Recreation and Facilities Director Mike Riggens

The City of Bryan has named Mike Riggens as its next Parks, Recreation and Facilities Director, with a start date of Dec. 1.

Riggens brings more than 30 years of experience in parks and recreation, including 19 years as Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Conroe.

During his tenure, he managed a $10 million operating budget, supervised 30 full-time employees, and oversaw an $80 million capital improvement program. His experience includes managing park development projects, community facilities, recreation programs, and operational planning to enhance quality of life for residents.

Riggens earned a Master of Science in sports management and a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from Western Illinois University. He is a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional and has received recognition from the Texas Recreation and Park Society for his leadership and programming achievements.

Deputy City Manager Hugh Walker said Riggens’ experience and leadership style make him a strong fit for Bryan.

“Mike brings a deep understanding of parks, recreation, and facility management, and he has shown a commitment to developing staff and building strong teams,” Walker said. “He will be an excellent addition to our organization and will help continue the momentum the department has already built.”

Riggens said he and his family are in the process of relocating to Bryan and are eager to get involved in the community.

“We are excited to make Bryan our home,” Riggens said. “I look forward to working with a hard-working team, serving residents, and becoming an active part of the community.”

Riggens succeeds former director Brad Stafford, who retired on Sept. 30. Marcus Walker, Parks Operations and Facility Services Manager, has been serving as interim director during the transition.
