City of Bryan’s Planning staff wins award for 2023 Historic Preservation Plan

On Friday, Sept.15, members of the City of Bryan’s Planning staff accepted the 2023 General Plan Award from the American Planning Association Texas Chapter’s Central Section. The award honors the city’s 2023 Historic Preservation Plan.

The General Plan Award recognizes plans that demonstrate and advance the science and art of planning. The 2023 Historic Preservation Plan updated the goals and strategies of the city’s 1989 plan through a 15-month process that involved public participation and outreach. The plan was adopted by the Bryan City Council on June 13.

With an updated, easy-to-follow format, the plan continues to encourage protecting Bryan’s historic structures and creates a new focus on the intangible aspects of Bryan’s culture.

At the core of the 2023 Historic Preservation Plan is the belief that there is still much to be discovered regarding the history and stories of Bryan, and even more to be preserved for the education of future generations.
