City of Bryan's Statement on Fire Emergency Services
The City of Bryan’s Fire, Fleet, Facilities, and Purchasing Departments work in a spirit of collaboration to identify and resolve challenges with fleet and facilities in support of the Fire Department.
The Fire Department operates two ladder trucks and five front-line fire engines, plus five reserve engines, which includes two reserve engines through an agreement with the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service. The Fire Department also has five front-line medic units and three reserve units, along with other specialty vehicles that can support coverage needs.
More than two years ago and at a cost of $3 million, the city ordered two new fire engines to supplement the above fleet assets. Both engines are scheduled to arrive in late January. The manufacturer understands the city’s request to accelerate this estimated delivery time. Additionally, they are assisting the city with sourcing another reserve engine until the new engines are delivered to the city.
Over the past several days, new maintenance issues involving four different engines have necessitated the city to add another reserve engine through our mutual aid partnership with Brazos County Precinct #4 Volunteer Fire Department.
The community’s safety has remained our priority throughout this process and the Fire Department exercises contingency plans to ensure readiness for these types of unexpected events. At no time has the public been at risk, and all essential services continue without interruption.
