Rejuvenated Travis Major Field Ready for Bryan Yard Dogs Inaugural Season

Renovations are wrapping up at Travis Major Field, giving new life to the Bryan landmark as the Bryan Yard Dogs prepare for their inaugural season.

In November 2025, Bryan City Council approved almost $700,000 for renovations, maintenance and operations of the city-owned facility. The city assumed full management of the ballpark on Jan. 1, 2026, after an exclusive facility use agreement with Infinity Sports Entertainment expired. The Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department and city contractors have been hard at work ever since.

“This facility is something our city can take pride in,” said Recreation Supervisor Matt Minahan, who has directly overseen the renovations. “Our goal is to have the facility and experience up to the standards that our renters deserve.”

Renovations include new amenities for both fans and players. Teams on the field will enjoy new infield turf, a new pitching mound and new backstop padding. Fans in the stands will experience a new sound system, new third-base party deck and a fresh coat of paint on the grandstand and buildings. Between the grandstands and party deck, the stadium can seat about 1,000 people, with additional large standing-room-only areas.

“When people visit Travis Major Field this year, fans can expect to have an enjoyable, memorable experience,” Minahan said.

The finishing touches, such as signage, will be put in place over the next few weeks. The refreshed facility will be a key component in the continued evolution of Travis Bryan Midtown Park.

“The city takes great pride in the properties and partnerships in Midtown Park,” Minahan said. “We want that excitement and passion at Travis Major Field, too, which is why the City Council invested in the future of this facility.”

The Yard Dogs won’t be the only team playing at the ballpark this year; the refurbished field is also available for rentals for travel ball teams, high school groups, adult teams and more. For information about facility rentals, email mminahan@bryantx.gov.

Yard Dogs Season Begins May 21

The renovations are wrapping up just in time for the Yard Dogs inaugural season. Opening Day is scheduled for Thursday, May 21, at 7:05 p.m. against the Beaumont Oil Barons, kicking off a 61-game schedule with 30 home games at Travis Major Field.

“We’re honored and excited to be part of this community, and we can’t wait to show off what we’ve got,” said Yard Dogs General Manager Joey Addicott. “We bring baseball and entertainment and we’re projecting a great season.”

Season tickets are now on sale for $352. Individual game tickets are also available, starting at $8, depending on seat location.

“We want to be fanatical about our fans,” Addicott said. “We want families to be able to come to a game at an affordable price and have a great time. We have options for kids to play wiffleball and for adults to enjoy great food and beer.”

The Yard Dogs will play in the Mid America League, a summer baseball league consisting of players from NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, and community colleges and junior colleges, as well as select players who have exhausted their college eligibility but want to retain amateur playing status. This season’s Yard Dogs players come from Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, Nebraska and Colorado. They’ll be led by a recognizable name in Head Coach John Byington, a former All-American third baseman at Texas A&M who most recently served as the head coach at McMurry University in Abilene.

“We’re blessed to have John Byington on board,” Addicott said. “It’s a true privilege to bring him back to Aggieland to help develop our athletes into the players they want to be.”

Once the season kicks off, games held on Mondays-Saturdays start at 7:05 p.m., while games on Sundays will start at 6:05 p.m. The home schedule features plenty of weekend games, plus games on key summer dates, including July 4. Additionally, the first seven games of the season are at home, between May 21-24 and May 26-28, giving Bryan residents an extended look at their new team.

“We want to mix high-level competition with engaging entertainment for nine innings each night,” Addicott said. “Come to one game, and I promise you’ll want to come back.”

The three-year agreement between the City of Bryan and the Yard Dogs’ parent company, Ventura Sports Group, includes an annual rental fee of $32,000 and net revenue sharing from advertising, sponsorships, concessions and broadcasting rights.

Host Homes Needed

The Yard Dogs are in search of host homes to take in players for the summer, providing stability, structure and a sense of belonging for each player.

“Host families are the backbone of our organization,” Addicott said. “They make our players feel like they’re part of the Bryan family, even though they’re only here for a few months.”

Host families are asked to provide a safe, clean and available room for a player, and commit to hosting them for the duration of the season. In return, the Yard Dogs offer two season tickets, on-field recognition at a game, a merchandise discount, a signed team baseball and a family photo with the player.
