The City of Bryanís Solid Waste Department services approximately 22,000 residential accounts per week. Residential collection services are performed Monday thru Thursday. Bryan residents are provided with one 95-gallon container for use, and receive collection service once per week.

Below you will find answers to common questions regarding our solid waste collection service.

What kind of refuse may be put in the containers?

All refuse and garbage can be placed in your container for disposal. The City of Bryan requires all wastes to be bagged prior to placement in your container to prevent wind blown litter and maintain your container in a clean and sanitary manner.

The following items CANNOT be placed in your container:

  • Construction debris, remodeling and demolition materials
  • Dirt, sod, brush or rock
  • Hot ashes or flammable materials such as oil, gas or paint
  • Furniture and appliances
  • Materials prohibited at the Landfill

When is my garbage service day?

Click Here to identify your service day. You may also obtain service day and other information by contacting the call center by email Public Works Call Center or phone (979) 209-5900.

Where should I place my container for service?

Your garbage container will be serviced by the Cityís automated collection vehicle. Place your container curbside no later than 7am on your scheduled collection day. Containers set out late will not be serviced, however a return trip may be provided for a fee.

Please place your container at least 4 feet away from mailboxes, parked vehicles, low wires and limbs, and other obstructions that can promote service interruptions. The arrows on your containerís lid should be facing the street so that the lid opens away from your residence. At no time should surplus garbage or items be placed in front of, on top, or beside your container.

Return your container from the curb to a location adjacent to your home no later than twelve hours after your schedule service day. This is requirement helps to keep the appearance of neighborhoods clean and neat, and allows access for emergency vehicles. Containers located curbside longer than twelve hours may be subject to citation.

I have too much waste to fit into my container, what can I do?

There are several options. You can utilize the Bryan Drive-In Recycling Center to reduce your volume of garbage through recycling, place large and bulky items for collection on your schedule bulky waste collection day, or order an additional container for an extra monthly fee. Contact the Public Works Call Center at (979) 209-5900 for information regarding any of these services.

Is there anything I can do to reduce my weekly volume?

Yes. The Bryan Drive-In Recycling Center is open 7 days a week and is a free service to all customers of the Brazos Valley. Do something terrific for our environment while lowering your disposal cost. Ask how you can save one month of garbage fees just for recycling!

The following items will be accepted for processing from commercial & nonprofit customers:

  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Aluminum and steel cans
  • #1 & #2 plastics (milk jugs, personal water bottles, grocery bags)
  • Newsprint and office paper
  • Brown and clear glass bottles and jars

My container was not picked up, what can I do?

Notify the Public Works Call Center by email or phone (979) 209-5900 immediately and inquire if our drivers reported any complications with your residenceís container. Containers accidentally missed by our drivers will be serviced by the next business day.

If your container was considered unserviceable, please make all requested changes (move parked cars and obstacles, remove items from in front of container, etc). A return trip may be provided for a return fee rate of $7.65 that will be charged to your monthly utility bill.

What should I do if my container is damaged or missing a lid or wheel?

Iím moving, do I take my container with me?

No. We will provide a container for you at your new residence free of charge. If you do not have a container at your new address, please email the Public Works Call Center or phone (979) 209-5900. A container will be delivered to your new residence by the end of the next business day.

My container has a bad odor, what can I do?

The customer is responsible for keeping the container clean and sanitary. To avoid odors from occurring, the City requires its residents to tightly bag their garbage before placing it into their solid waste container. This action will help to prevent odors within your container and will help to eliminate wind blown litter and spillage during collection. In addition, routinely washing your container with soap and water will help to eliminate odors.
