Service Day Map

Brush and Bulky Guidelines

  • Place items at a curbside location that’s easily accessible to the collection vehicle.  Do so anytime 48 hours before, and up to 7 a.m. on the scheduled day of collection.
  • Heavy trash collection is limited to residential and general maintenance activities performed on vacant lots meeting the requirements of 150’ x 150’.
  • A maximum of 23 cubic yards of materials are allotted to each resident per week. Items exceeding this allotted amount may be collected at an additional fee or transported by the generator to the landfill for disposal.
  • No household chemical will be collected at the curb.  In fact, the homeowner is subject to a citation if a chemical is left curbside.
  • Appliances containing refrigerant must be tagged to certify that a qualified technician has removed the refrigerant, or else a $20 environmental impact fee will be assessed to the resident’s utility bill. To protect small children and infants, we ask residents disposing of refrigerators to properly secure doors with duct tape or rope.
  • Set bulky waste and green waste (limbs, branches, etc.)  in separate piles for collection.

Please do not place items:

  • Under low overhead electric wires, cablings, signs or mailboxes
  • Stacked next to fences, posts, atop water or gas meters, gas meters, fire hydrants or other utility components.
  • Materials should not be placed in the street, on the sidewalk or other right-of-way in a manner that interferes with pedestrian or vehicle traffic.

Containers in the Right of Way

Container Placement Information

The City of Bryan provides solid waste service once per week to residents living within our City’s collection service routes.  The customers must place their solid waste containers at the curb or other appropriate collection point by no later than 7:00 a.m. of the schedule collection day.  Placement of the container for service shall not be set out no more than 12-hours prior to scheduled service day.   In addition, removal of the container shall be done 12 hours after service is performed and must be returned to a location adjacent to the dwelling.

Note: Residents need to ensure that their containers are not blocked by a motor vehicle, mail boxes or overhead wires.

Enforcement Actions

The City of Bryan ordinance sets a 12-hour time limit for your container to remain in the right-of-Way. This ordinance is in place to help ensure safety while traveling on streets and also to maintain aesthetically pleasing neighborhoods.

(Chapter 102 Solid Waste Article II Collection & Disposal Section 102.25 (b) Automated residential collection.)

If customers do not comply with City ordinances warning tags (blue and/or red) may be placed on containers to notify residents of code requirements. Blue tags are attached to containers first when compliance officers initially address the concern of a container in right-of-way (ROW).  If the problem continues then second contact is made with the issuing of red tags which is placed on the solid waste container.

When a red tag is placed on the container it will act as a final notice to residents to comply with local city ordinance, each occurrence thereafter will result in a citation.

Street Sweeping

The City performs periodic and frequent street sweeping throughout residential areas and other thoroughfares within the City. Street sweeping is intended to prolong the life of the City’s street and drainage infrastructure by removing dirt, sand, and other contaminants from the roadway.

The Street Sweepers operate Monday-Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Some major streets and high traffic areas are swept during early morning hours to accommodate traffic and maintain a safe work environment. All curb and gutter streets are scheduled to be swept up to four times per year to help comply with the City’s Stormwater Management Plan. Those streets without curbs and gutters receive periodic litter abatement by the Solid Waste Assessment Workers.

The efficiency of street sweeping is limited by the general condition of the roadway, and other obstacles such as low limbs, parked cars, trash cans, etc. As a reminder to all residents, it is prohibited by ordinance to sweep or blow leaves into the roadways. Residents are encouraged to utilize the City’s weekly Brush & Bulky collection to remove all yard waste.

Working together, we can keep our streets, drainage system, and water supply clean!
