Development Services News
The City of Bryan Building Services Department will be adopting some of the 2009
International Family of Codes and the 2005 National Electrical Code within the
next year. Our goal is to have the 2009 International Plumbing Code,
International Fuel Gas Code, International Mechanical Code, International
Building Code, International Residential Code, and International Fire Code
adopted by November 2010. The 2009 International Energy Conservation Code, 2005
National Electrical Code (NEC), and possibly the Property Maintenance Code would
be adopted by January 2011. There will be a Board of Adjustments and Appeals
public meeting in the City Council Chambers August 26th at 6:00pm for review of
the 2009 International Fuel Gas, Mechanical, Building and Fire code
amendments. Public meetings for the residential and plumbing code will be in
September. Please check city web site for updates.
Code adoption updates are necessary for the City of Bryan
to maintain good insurance ratings. Adopting current codes also helps property
owners with possibly reduced insurance costs.
The City of College Station adopted the 2009 International
Codes and the 2008 National Electrical Code this past year. The proposed code
adoption and amendments for the City of Bryan are similar, with the exception
that the City of Bryan will adopt the 2005 NEC instead of the 2008 version.
