St. Joseph Traffic Signal & Intersection Impvts.

City Job No. 332-DE-1413
Last Updated: 2/5/2019

General Information

Project Manager/City Contact: Matt Dawson

Alternate City Contact: Paul Kaspar

Project Description: The project includes design and preparation of the construction plans for rebuilding the intersection of Memorial Drive and E. 29th Street to remove the dip that exists today at this intersection in order to better serve patients being transported in ambulances to the Hospital from E. 29th Street. This will require reconstruction of more than just the intersection in order to make the drainage work. Additionally at this intersection a right turn lane will be added so there can be a left turn, straight and right turn dedicated lanes at the intersection. The scope also includes installation of new traffic signals at Memorial / E. 29th Street and at Villa Maria /E. 29th Street. These signals have been planned for replacement using the Transportation Fee funds as they contain old outdated equipment and see heavy traffic daily due to St. Joseph Hospital and Blinn College traffic generators. A right turn lane is planned at the Villa Maria / E. 29th Street intersection as well. Many of the sidewalks do not meet ADA standards and will be replaced within the project limits. The final component of the scope is to install underground conduit and duct bank for conversion of overhead utilities to underground.

General Information

Project Manager/City Contact: Paul Kaspar

Alternate City Contact:

Project Description: The project includes design and preparation of the construction plans for building a new fire station #2 at the intersection of Maloney Ave and Lawrence Ave. The requirements for firefighter training and continuing education have grown extensively over the past decade and facilities must now accommodate physical and tactical training in order to keep up with the increased number of hours required for firefighters each year. The City not only needs to upgrade Firestation #2 to allow for larger bays that store the trucks and equipment but are now also used as training facilities, but also needs to upgrade this facility to accommodate the growth occurring in Bryan and the need that creates for additional fire protection.
